REWIRE welcomed a distinguished semiconductor delegation from Malaysia to the University of Bristol last week, marking a significant step toward deepening international collaboration across research and innovation in power semiconductors and power electronics.

Led by the British High Commission in Malaysia and the Department for Business and Trade in the UK, the delegation included representatives from Malaysian semiconductor sector agencies Collaborative Research in Engineering, Science & Technology (CREST) Center, Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association (MSIA), and Selangor Information Technology & Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec), as well as industry leaders SMD Semiconductor and SkyeChip.

The delegation engaged in a series of presentations and technical discussions with REWIRE and QET Labs academics and researchers. The visit focused on exploring areas of potential joint initiatives and opportunities for industry-academic partnerships in power electronics, compound semiconductors and silicon photonics.

Highlights of the visit included presentations from the Malaysian delegation with an overview of the nation’s outstanding semiconductor ecosystem and capabilities, including in manufacturing and packaging, and reciprocal presentations from REWIRE senior academics. The delegation also toured the Centre for Nanoscience and Quantum Information (NSQI) and the HH Wills Physics Laboratory to showcase the world-leading facilities across the university, including the University cleanroom and Centre for Device Thermography and Reliability labs.

The visit concluded with a networking lunch attended by REWIRE academics and students and the Malaysian delegation in Bristol. The REWIRE team looks forward to deepening ties with our Malaysian colleagues in the near future to help push the next generation of power electronics towards commercialisation through collaboration and innovation.
