Impact
Development through partnerships
REWIRE is positioned to deliver a wide-reaching and long-term impact through the development of students, technical staff, and researchers in a programme co-designed and delivered in partnership with industry.
Science and innovation
At the heart of the IKC is the ambition to bring together industry and academia to co-design, develop, and drive the adoption of transformative technologies. These efforts will serve as anchors to facilitate knowledge exchange and promote the adoption of novel technologies through activities and engagement with industry. Investments into facilities related to IKC research will further support this mission.
Extensive knowledge exchange will be facilitated through seminars and staff secondments, offering diverse perspectives, experience, and training in new environments.
Policy and public engagement
The IKC aligns with UK policy influencers, trade bodies, research funders, and government bodies. The REWIRE team is actively working with policymakers to help deliver the goals of the UK Semiconductor Strategy. Through the research and innovation funded by REWIRE, we aim to influence technology standards, policies, and regulations in the semiconductor sector while developing important global links to broaden the outcomes and adoption of these innovations.
Our academics have, and will continue to, host collaborative outreach activities, offering postdocs and PhD students opportunities to devise creative ways to promote our research and engage with young people interested in science.
Equity, diversity, and inclusivity
Equity, diversity, and inclusivity (EDI) are integral to our ambitions and have been embedded throughout the project. Our leadership team has a proven track record of dismantling barriers to research and promoting equity across the research landscape.
REWIRE will cultivate a culture of belonging by building and sustaining inclusive working environments that support, respect, and celebrate individual differences. We aim to identify and address structural barriers in REWIRE’s policies and practices through inclusive infrastructure. We will also ensure diversity of representation in the recruitment, retention, and continuous professional development of REWIRE staff and students by delivering comprehensive EDI training across the consortium.
Skills and talent
The IKC will foster a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative environment to nurture the next generation of semiconductor materials scientists and engineers. The application-driven, collaborative research and training programme will advance semiconductor power device technologies toward commercialisation, while also upskilling the semiconductor designers and engineers of tomorrow.
Supply chain
The interconnected nature of the semiconductor electronics supply chain across national borders makes it a highly sensitive and dynamic sector, susceptible to fluctuations in diplomatic relations, trade policies, and even local political developments.
REWIRE will develop and pilot supply chain tools in collaboration with industry and policy partners to drive advancements in semiconductor supply chain management. These tools will enhance our security of supply by identifying global resilience strategies for the semiconductor supply chain.
